Dr. Gary D. Jobe , 70, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday evening, August 24, 2019 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center after a 5 year battle with cancer.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 29 th , at 11 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Eric Wright will officiate. Military rites will be held at the cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Gary was born on January 21, 1949 in Cherokee to Gerald D and Betty Jean (Johnson) Jobe. He graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1967 where he played varsity football and wrestled. He attended University of South Dakota in 1967 and then served in U.S. Army from 1968-1969 with one year in South Korea. He returned to Cherokee and worked for Capitol Bridge and Wilson Foods (1969-1970). He attended the University of Iowa on the G.I. Bill in 1970-1971. He returned to Cherokee and worked at Hygrade Food Products (Storm Lake) in 1971-1972. He then attended Palmer Junior College (Davenport) from 1973-1974 and Palmer College of Chiropractic from 1974-1978. After receiving a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, he moved to Conroe, Texas and practiced from 1979-1990. Gary returned to Cherokee and worked at Wilson (later Tyson) Foods until his retirement on disability.
Gary had many pets through the years. He especially loved his dogs (Anna and Daisy) and his cat Spaz. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts Ruth Johnson, Dorothy Stiles and her husband Bud.
Gary is survived by his daughters Jessica (Minneapolis MN), Moriah and granddaughter Indigo of Plymouth, MN; brothers Mike (Kay), Jobe, La Plata, MD; Ben Jobe, Cherokee; Aunt Marge (Johnson) Witcraft, Spring Valley, CA; Uncles Doug (Sandy) Jobe, Bear, DE; Don Jobe, Fort Dodge, IA, Darrell (Leisa) Jobe, Colo, IA; Duane (Norma) Jobe, Council Bluffs, IA and nephews Brian (Halethorpe, MD), Kevin (Towson, MD), Eric (Fishers, IN), a niece Janell (La Plata, MD), and many devoted friends.
