GARY  L.  JONES, 87, of Sutherland, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

It was Gary's wish to donate his body to science at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.  There will be no services at this time.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .

Gary was born on February 27, 1935 to Alva and Bernice (Agnew) Jones at Quimby, Iowa.  He attended Calumet Schools and then graduated from Cherokee High School in 1953.

He was united in marriage to Maureen Mallory on February 27, 1954 in California.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1955 to 1959.  He began working for J.J. Newberry in California for 12 years.  He then worked for Culligan/Maytag in Cherokee for 18 years.

Gary was united in marriage to Judy Ford on October 27, 1973.  Together they owned and operated Judy's Hallmark in Cherokee, Iowa for 20 years.  After selling their business, he was a delivery driver for Hy-Vee Pharmacy for 5 years before retiring in 2016.

In his free time, Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a lifelong Oakland Raiders football fan.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Jones, and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Viola Jones, and a son-in-law Jim Tarbert.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Jones of Sutherland, Iowa; children, Gary Jones of Cave Creek, Arizona, Tammy (Kirby) Livingston of Lakeland, Minnesota, DeeAnn (Jerry) Sommers of Lakeland, Minnesota, Josie Tarbert of Lemon Grove, California, and Bret (Shari) Ford of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren with another one due in March; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Sally Puhrmann of Storm Lake, Iowa.
