Obituary

GAYLE A. FARLEE , 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 16, 2014 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center after a three year battle with Parkinsons.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Gayle was born on May 15, 1936 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Earl & Geneva (Erickson) Farlee. He married his high school sweetheart, Merry Clark on October 9, 1955 at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. They celebrated 58 years of marriage together. Gayle worked at Quinn's Service Station from 1955 – 1957. In 1958 he moved to Hawthorne, California. In 1963 he returned to Cherokee and bought Quinn's Service Station. In 1965 Kenny Brandt went into partnership with Gayle at the station. Gayle retired from the service station in 1998.

Gayle was a member of the First Church of Christ. He enjoyed working with wood, snowmobiling, playing cards, and following sports on TV. He especially enjoyed his daughter, Gaylene's sport activities while she was in High School and attending his two grandson's sporting events and spending time at his lake home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was proud to be a grandfather to Aaron and Bryan Hultman, and Tricia Richardson and great grandfather to Kinley Marie Hultman and Madison Mead. He lived his life enjoying his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Joyce & Donald Clark, Janice & Orlyn Jensen, Kenny Brandt, Jim Stewart and Denny Kolb.

He is survived by his loving wife Merry and one daughter: Gaylene (Ronald) Hultman of Cherokee, Iowa; his grandchildren: Aaron (Roberta) Hultman of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Bryan (Cassey) Hultman of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Tricia Richardson of Menifee, California; his great granddaughters: Kinley Hultman and Madison Mead of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters: Donna Mae (John) Walker of Red Oak, Iowa; Dotty (Jack) D'Angelo of Mesa, Arizona; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Margie Stewart of Kingsley, Iowa; Jerry (Joyce) Clark of Cherokee, Iowa; Della (Royden) Rupp of Cherokee, Iowa; Betty Kolb of Holstein, Iowa; Roy James (Karen) Clark of Florida; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
