GENE ELLEN JOHNSTON HUNT, 75 of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at BSA Hospice in Amarillo, Texas.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com .  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Gene Ellen's name to a local animal shelter or humane society.

Gene Ellen was born on January 3, 1947 to Robert L. and Pearl Burnette (Peterson) Johnston in Cherokee, Iowa.  She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1965.  She attended Barstow Community College, receiving her Associate's Degree.  She was married to Robert B. Hunt on June 3, 1992 at Barstow, California.  She worked for the United States Marine Corp Logistics Base in Yermo, California.  She was the senior secretary to the plant manager.

She was affiliated with the First Church of Christ.

Gene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved to garden, especially roses, and being outside.  She cherished her two Shih Tzu dogs, Princess and Pudden.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gene is survived by her husband, Robert of Amarillo, Texas; children James (Stella) Fellinger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nancy (Clete) Pfeiffer of Houston, Texas, Rodney (Holly) Fellinger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lisa (Brent) Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; also many cousins.
