GEORGE O. "JR"   BRIGGS , 82, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, June 11, 2019 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.

George was born September 23, 1936 in Cherokee County, Iowa to George and Lois Bork. He attended Marcus schools and later received his GED.  He was a self-employed mechanic, operating Briggs Motor in rural Marcus from 1979 until 2011. He was married to Darlene Nelson.  He was married to Dolores (Draper) Raper on February 28, 1978 at Elk Point, South Dakota.  George had also worked at B & B. Motors in Cherokee, Brown Chevrolet and operated Briggs Camper Sales.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, gardening, fishing and anything to do with cars.  He enjoyed drag racing and all car activities.  He was an avid gardener and loved to fish and a member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dolores in 2016, a son David Briggs in 2017 and a brother Steven Briggs.

He is survived by one son Doug (Kay) Briggs of Marcus, Iowa; a daughter Deb (Warren) Sleezer of LasVegas, Nevada; several grandchildren; a sister Jackie (Charles) Letsche of Cherokee, Iowa; a  brother Dale "Bud" Briggs of Calumet, Iowa, several nieces and nephews.

It was George's request to be cremated. A time of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Monday, June 17 ^th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www. boothbyfuneral.com
