GERALD L. BRUNS, 73, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at his home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 4:00 p.m at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.  Pastor Mike Agnew will officiate.  Burial will be at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, Iowa.  Public visitation will be held prior to the service with the family present form 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the Boothby Funeral Home. Gerald was born on July 2, 1949 to Duane and Marlyn (Todd) Bruns at Cherokee, Iowa.  He attended Galva Schools and then graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1968.  He was united in marriage to Annette Helman on July 6, 1969 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

He worked at Wilson Foods, which was later Continental Deli, and then Tyson foods from May of 1969 to February of 2006 when he retired.   He was famously known as "Brunso" by those that he worked with.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.  Gary was also a member of the Supernatural Fan Club.

He enjoyed westerns, Supernatural, woodworking, drawing, Old Milwaukee and spending time with his family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Mary, brother Perry Bruns, brother-in-law, Ray Johnson, and sister-in-law, Marsha Bruns.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Bruns of Cherokee, Iowa; daughters, Kim (Al) Beck of Cherokee, Iowa and Heather (Anthony) Baedke of Fort Dodge, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Wanda (Luke), Jordan (Amber), Dace (Shel), Colton, Jack, Lief, Forrest, Kade, Lillie, Ava, and Autumn; six great grandchildren, Micah, Lena, Nellie, Kolt, Emilia, and Malcolm; siblings, Cheryl Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, Larry Bruns of St. Louis, Missouri, Terry (Mary) Bruns of Early, Iowa and Jerry (Deb) Bruns of Waukee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
