JERRY B. HAMMERSTROM, 86, of Meriden, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 23, 2017 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.

Jerry was born in Sioux City, Iowa on May 22, 1930 to Roy and Gretchen (Church) Hammerstrom. He graduated from Sioux City High School and went on to serve in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. Jerry was employed for over 25 years at the Sioux City Iron Company, and 5 years at Kmart prior to his retirement in 1980.



Jerry loved to attend dances, and it is here he met his wife Irena Meyer. Jerry and Irena were married on November 17, 1984 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Together they continued to enjoy dancing, fishing and working in their yard and garden. In recent years he looked forward to seeing his friends at the Cleghorn Senior Citizen's Center and Cherokee Community Center.



Mr. Hammerstrom is preceded in death by his wife Irena, his parents, and his brother Ronald Hammerstrom. He is survived by his stepchildren, Ronald (Janet) Meyer, Sharon Geister; his nieces, nephews, and many family and friends.


Jerry will be lovingly laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa, and at his request, no formal services will be held. Boothby Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, and online condolences may be left at http://www.boothbyfuneral.com/
