GLADYS N. SCHROEDER, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday afternoon, August 15, 2016 at Accura Health Care (Countryside Estates) in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Gladys was born on October 21, 1921 in Afton Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Ernest & Mary (Golnitz) Schwenn. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod). She attended Cherokee Schools graduating from Wilson High School in 1940. After graduation, she followed the secretarial and clerical trade.
Gladys was married to Robert H. Schroeder on May 21, 1943 at the Air Force Base in Greenville, Mississippi. Following her husband's discharge from WW II, they returned to Cherokee County. In 1955, she started her employment with the Cherokee County Soil Conservation District and retired in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother VeNeita Schwenn, her husband Robert H. Schroeder on March 9, 2009; three sisters Rose Noah, Esther Wahlstrom, and Alice Crane; one brother Roy Schwenn; three sisters-in-law Dorothy Ogren, Lorraine Schouten, and Fern Brandt.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.
