GLENDA L. JOHNSON, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the St. Luke's North Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jeff Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Glenda was born on December 3, 1936 at Cherokee, Iowa to Glenn & Phyllis (Wilkinson) Parker. She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1955. She was married to Lloyd Brown on December 8, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa. She was later married to Espy Johnson on November 2, 1957 at Elk Point, South Dakota. Glenda was a housewife and a stay at home mom. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church and had taught Children's Sunday School Class. She belonged to the Cherokee Christian Women's Club. She worked with various committees and guided many Bible Studies in several neighborhoods. Glenda enjoyed Bible reading, embroidery, crocheting, craftwork, crossword puzzles, and reading poetry. She had been living in Kansas City, Missouri the past year to be closer to her family, prior to this had lived in Cherokee, Iowa for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Espy Johnson on October 3, 2003, a son Rick Johnson, a daughter-in-law Debra Brown, and a sister Bonnie Jean who died in infancy.
She is survived by her two sons: Tom Brown and his wife Darlene of Hyde Park, New York; Brandon Johnson and his wife Coleen of Platte City, Missouri; a daughter-in-law Nancy Johnson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; grandchildren; Ryan and Meredith Johnson, Jason, Chris and Tim Brown, Justin, Josh and Jerod Johnson; one great granddaughter Debra Brown; a brother Tom (Ann) Parker of Hardin, Montana; a sister Dawn Sonksen of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
