Obituary

GORDON L. “BUD” PERKINS, 82, of Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away on June 26, 2026 at his home in Cleghorn, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa . Pastor Peter Zaitz will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be held an hour prior to services at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Private family burial will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee and Marcus is assisting the family with arrangements. Bud was born on November 20, 1943 to Curtis and Catherine (Austin) Perkins in Laconia, New Hampshire. Being a “Navy Brat”, Bud attended schools in New Hampshire, North Carolina, California, and Hawaii and graduated in 1962. Upon graduating from high school, Bud enlisted in the United States Navy, serving 49 months active duty in the Washington D.C. area. He then worked civil service for two years in the Bureau of Naval Personnel. While at the Bureau, he met Marlene Hazen. They were united in marriage on February 20, 1966 at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born, Denise, Dawn, and Celeste.

Bud and Marlene moved to Cleghorn in September 1968, where he began his career at Wilson Foods. He retired as a supervisor after 38 years of service on January 10, 2006. Bud enjoyed fishing, reading, and coin collecting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Catherine Perkins and his younger brother, Mark Hill.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; daughters Denise (Craig) Rupp, Dawn (Michael) Hoag, and Celeste Mohr; grandchildren Logan Rupp, Taylor Rupp, Zachary Perkins, Shelby (Manny)Montes and Olivia Mohr, and Charlotte Hoag.
