HAROLD T. "'HARRY" PHELAN, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2011 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 27th, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa.Pastor Jim Steen will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. He was born on August 7, 1933 at Cherokee, Iowa to Rex & Lavon (Samp) Phelan. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1951. He farmed early in life, drove truck for Staver High Country Slavage, Cliff Benson Trucking, Sioux City Motor Freight and Van Wyk's. Harold was married to Florence Hoeppner on April 18, 1984 at Cherokee, Iowa. He was baptized on March 26, 1989 at Hiwasse Christian Church in Hiwasse, Arkansas. He was a lifelong resident of Cherokee. Harold enjoyed boating, fishing, reading, history, watching the weather channel, taking his parents to California and Arkansas vacationing, and especially spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchild and he loved being with his dog Carlo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ronald Phelan.
He is survived by his wife Florence of Cherokee; his children: Cody Phelan of Cherokee, Iowa; Cathy Robinson and her husband Bill of Calumet, Iowa; Cindy Sargent of Cherokee, Iowa; Tracy Hoeppner and his wife Caty of Cherokee, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
