Obituary

HARVEY G. ALLEN, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, October 13, 2010 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's.


Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 16th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Renee AuMiller will officiate. It was Harvey's wishes to be cremated. Burial of the cremains will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Harvey was born on March 14, 1933 at Cherokee, Iowa to Harold & Edith (Edwards) Allen. Harvey attended Quimby Schools. He was married to Rosalie Boothby on September 16, 1963.
He drove taxi in Cherokee for several years, was delivery man for Ryden's Cleaners in Cherokee, and worked for the Cherokee County Road Dept. for many years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fixing bicycles, riding his motorcycle, going to stock car races, feeding squirrels and birds and spending time with his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Donald Allen, a brother Dale D. Allen in 1996 and an infant brother and sister.

He is survived by his wife Rosalie, his children: Kathy Sutter and her fiance Howie Schultz of Cherokee, Iowa; Terry (Larry) Sherman of Park Rapids, Minnesota; Dick (Connie) Allen of Sioux City, Iowa; Jim (Kim) Allen of Dakota City, Nebraska; Tim (Katie) Miller of Creston, Illinois; Lori (Dan) Hansen of Cherokee, Iowa; Kim (Paul) Dierenfeld of Cherokee, Iowa; Shelly Allen and her special friend Todd Hatch of Cherokee, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Paula Allen of Whitewright, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
