HAZEL M. KELLY. 100, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Sunday morning, October 6, 2013 in the Countryside Estates at Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Hazel was born on April 27, 1913 at Brookings, South Dakota to Fred & Lavina (Zwick) Gould. She attended Country School. She was married to Leo Kelly on January 4, 1933 at Larrabee, Iowa. Her husband died in 1945 during WW II, leaving Hazel to raise her family on her own. She worked at Edwards Dime Store and later Mode O Day shop many years. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Hazel enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her three children: Joyce (Lee) Spence of Chisago City, Minnesota; Clinton (Marlene) Kelly of Cherokee, Iowa; Carol (Ralph) Troeller of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; a brother Marvin Gould of Gregory, South Dakota; a sister-in-law Vivian Gould of Emmetsburg, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
