HELENE M.  PRUNTY, 100, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning September 26, 2018 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.

It was Helene's wish to be cremated and have private family graveside services at the Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Helene was born December 17, 1917 to Frank & Beatrice (Walker) Hurd in rural Meriden, Iowa. She grew up on a farm north of Meriden with her sisters Vera, Frances, and twin sister Helen. She went to country school in Liberty Township and graduated from Meriden Consolidated High School with the Class of 1935. She was married to Lester "Lex" Prunty on December 25, 1935 in Orange City, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Chuck, Connie and Wayne.

The family lived on a farm in Liberty Township until 1941 when they purchased their farm west of Larrabee, Iowa. They worked together on their farm until Lex passed away in January of 1969. Chuck and Wayne came back to the family farm and Helene bought an acreage north of Cherokee and worked at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

Helene enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great grandkids and loved it when they brought their friends to the house for snacks, lunches, and teasing conversation. She loved the land and upon retirement she had several flower gardens and a big vegetable garden. She canned and was always busy planting trees, shrubs, and baking. Helene was not one to be idle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters and their spouses:Vera and Ray Prunty, Frances and Leslie Ducommun, Helen and Glenn Davis, and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her three children: Chuck (Annabelle) Prunty, Connie Prunty and Wayne (Suzanne) Prunty all of Cherokee, Iowa; Grandchildren: Timothy Prunty of Cherokee, Iowa, Kimberly Prunty of Oceanside, California, John (Melissa) Prunty of Mitchell, South Dakota, Allison Wallace of Urbandale, Iowa, and Evan Prunty of Milford, Iowa; her great grandchildren: William, Adelyn, Olivia, and Ava Prunty of Mitchell, South Dakota; Meara and Connor Wallace of Urbandale, Iowa.
