Obituary

HERBERT R. LARSON, 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 24th, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey de Vega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com

Herbert was born June 29, 1920, son of Erik and Alphild (Sundblad) Larson near Paullina, Iowa. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1939. He served in U.S. Army in Panama and the Philippines from 1941 to 1945, then returned to Cherokee. He was married to Geraldine (Jerry) Fassler on November 8, 1946 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. They operated the neighborhood grocery store on South 8th Street for 2 ½ years. He then went on to manage Cherokee Concrete Products Company for 37 years, retiring in1984. Herb enjoyed golfing, playing cards and working at the church. He was a superior wood worker. Herb was a long-standing member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Survivors include his beloved wife Jerry of Cherokee, two sons, Steven (Vicki) of Westminster, Colorado and James (Laurie) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kristen (Kevin) Kelly, Seth Larson, Josh Larson all from the Denver, Colorado area, Kristopher Larson (Sarrah Zillges), Jenna Larson (Robert Poeschl), Nathan (Wendy) Larson, Stephanie (Paul) Hallman and Amanda (Matthew) Carey. Herb also had seven great grandchildren, Sophie, Reese and Ava Kelly, Jedediah and Kallum Larson-Poeschl, Jacob Becker and Benjamin Carey. He also is survived by one sister Ruth Parks of Palmetto, Florida, one sister-in-law Roberta Wilcox of Broomfield, Colorado, four nephews Paul (Marge) Sundblad Oak Forest, Illinois, Kenneth (Vicki) Fassler Meriden, Iowa, Brad (Renee) Wilcox, Alamosa, Colorado and Brent Wilcox Denver, Colorado and two nieces Pamela (Robert) Horner of Groveland, Massachusetts and Karen Cheatham of Las Cruces, New Mexico and many other relatives and friends.
