ISABEL M. KASTENGREN, 85, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 15th, at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jim Steen and Pastor Jane Johnston will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from
10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Isabel was born May 18, 1925 in rural Aurelia, Iowa to Earl & Florence (Brady) Zwick. She attended Aurelia School and graduated in 1942. She was united in marriage to Joe Kastengren Jr. on January 18, 1944 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. To this union, 4 children were born, Janice, Jerry, JoAnne and Jean. Isabel and Joe lived in rural Cherokee, Larrabee, and Aurelia before moving to Cherokee in 1994. She worked as a secretary at the Lockin Insurance Agency in Aurelia and the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Afton Community Club. She enjoyed flower gardening, shopping, reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, eating out with friends and driving in the country. Most of all, she cherished visits with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She kept up with her family and friends by e-mail, Facebook on her computer and text messaging on her cell phone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joe on January 29, 2007; son Jerry; and brother Raymond Zwick.

She is survived by three daughters: Jan (Jim) Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; JoAnne (Jeff) Hirschman of Alta, Iowa; Jean (Dennis) Correll of Medford, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Nancy Kastengren of Dublin, Ohio; 6 grandchildren: Scott (Olympia) Kastengren, Gregg Kastengren, Jennifer (Ryan) Blackman, Jessica (Jarrod) Garrison, Lindsay Correll, and Brittany Correll; 3 great grandchildren: Noah Kastengren, Lane Garrison and Grace Garrison; sisters-in-law: Betty Zwick; Marion (Brad) Tate; Shirley Bengtsson; Joyce Kastengren; brother-in-law Nels Kastengren; and many nieces and nephews.
