Obituary

JAMES E. HUBER, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Jim was born on May 23, 1924 to Ed J. & Ethel F. (Hull) Huber at Cherokee, Iowa. He attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High in 1942. Jim joined the U.S. Army in 1943 where he was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Janet DeLand on November 18, 1944 in Worthington, Minnesota. Jim worked on the Alaskan Highway, shipyards in Long Beach, California, IPS, owned and operated Huber Paint & Wallpaper for a few years, later working for Lundell's Manufacturing until 1965 and Wilson's Food from 1965-1988 when he retired. He was a member and Elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong resident of Cherokee, Iowa. Jim had a love for bird watching, helping Dick Bierman with the annual bird count in January. He was a lifelong WHS Sports enthusiast, especially wrestling. He also enjoyed fishing and time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet on January 5, 2009, son Michael in 1963, a brother Richard Huber and a brother Robert Huber in infancy.

Jim is survived by his daughter Lynn Kintigh and her husband David of Cherokee, Iowa; ; two granddaughters: Dannielle Wimer and her husband Chris of Fremont, Nebraska; Ashley Mizner Bruce and her husband Jacob of Cherokee, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: Jacob, Cory, Abigail, Avery, Grady, and Cully; one sister-in-law Barbara Kearney and her husband Richard of Storm Lake, Iowa; 2 nieces: Jan Kearney and her husband Chuck Sabalos of Tuscon, AZ.; Patricia Moe and her husband Keith of Albert City, IA.; 2 nephews: Bill Kearney and his wife Ying and their daughters Emma and Helen of Iowa City, Iowa; Matt Kearney and his wife Jamie of Iowa City, IA.; 2 great nieces: Elizabeth Billups and her husband Jamaine and their sons Braylon & Cannon of North Carolina; Emma Perry and her husband Rusty and daughter Eve of Bellevue, NE.
