Obituary

James (Jim) Arthur Jarratt passed away on August 4, 2021 following a brief illness.

Jim was born on September 3, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa to Dr. Charles and Beverly Jarratt. In June of 1974 Jim married his sweetheart, travel companion and soul mate Carla Cargin. They recently celebrated their 47 anniversary. In 1981 Jim and his family moved to Texas where Jim worked in public works for several municipalities. Jim had the opportunity to be an inspector on several large projects in Dallas including a Dallas city owned hotel, a mass transit rail line and the reconstruction of the interchange of multiple interstates and highways around DFW airport known as the Connector. Jim retired as a construction inspector for the city of McKinney, Texas in 2020. Jim and Carla then moved to live their retirement dream in Bradenton, Florida. Jim had a great love for his family, his friends, travel, sandy beaches and was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, where they could be found at the stadium most Thanksgiving holidays.

Jim had a gift of conversation and never met a stranger: everyone was a friend. Jim enjoyed little known facts and loved to share these with the family and friends on any topic. His mother always said "Your mind is filled with so much useless information" and she was not totally incorrect. Jim remembered everything so vividly.

He is loved by all and his love of life will be missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Janie Jarratt Harer, in laws Howard and Pearl Cargin.

Jim is survived by his wife Carla, son Jamie (Erin) Jarratt, grandson Jason Jarratt, granddaughter Kelsey Jarratt, Plano Texas, son Nick (Sharon) Jarratt, Highland Village, Texas, his brother Tom (Nancy) Jarratt, Sioux City, Iowa, sister Julie (Jerry) Berglund, Larrabee, Iowa, brother-in-law Kent Harer, Grapevine, Texas, the Cargin Clan and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for all family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 starting at 1 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.  Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
