JANE R. JOHNSTON, 88, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee & rural Cleghorn, Iowa passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at Countryside Senior Living in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the church. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Jane was born on November 22, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank & Caroline (Bauer) Babic. She attended K-8th grade at St. Alphonsas Catholic School in Chicago and then graduated from Lake View High School in Chicago in 1941. She was united in marriage to Francis "Pat" Johnston on October 31, 1943 in Chicago. After WWII ended, they moved to the Cherokee area. Jane worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute as a Psychiatric Nurse's Aide for 17 years before retiring in 1985. She was a devoted member to the First Church of Christ in Cherokee and also a member of Farm Bureau. She enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling, camping and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan from the day she was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on January 9, 1993, 2 sisters: Connie Currie & Jeanne Babic.

Jane is survived by her three loving children: Pastor Michael Johnston and his wife Gail of Tracy, Minnesota; Judy Lundgren and her husband Pastor Dan of Larned, Kansas; Tim Johnston and his wife Susan of Sioux City, Iowa; 8 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren; nieces & nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Siouxland in Sioux City, Iowa.
