JANET E. HAHN, 86 , formerly of Aurelia, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 14, 2021 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and Twilight Acres for the loving care that they provided to Janet in her final days.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 20 th , at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Denise Parrillo will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the Boothby Funeral Home.  Masks will be optional. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Janet was born on June 25, 1935 at home in Cherokee County to Edmund and Alma (Keller) Volkert.  She was the youngest of six children.  Janet attended a one-room country school until she went on to high school at Quimby consolidated, where she graduated in 1953.

After graduating, Janet worked as a service operator with Northwestern Bell in Nebraska.  Later she worked for the USDA in Iowa.  Janet also worked various seasonal jobs while raising five children.

Janet was married to Bobbie Thomas in 1953, to this union Janet was blessed with two children, Barry and Becky.  On June 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Lorne W. Hahn and to this union she welcomed Lorne's daughter, Karin, and together the family grew welcoming three daughters, Cindy, Nadine, and Amy.

Janet truly loved gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, knitting, and also made a business decorating cakes.  Janet had a gift of expressing her thoughts in writings and poems.  Her children were fortunate to have their wedding cakes decorated by Janet.  In their earlier years Janet and Lorne enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with their family.  In the later years they picked up the game of golf and enjoyed golfing together.

No one was more proud than Janet when it came to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Some referred to her as Gramma Great.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings: Alvin Volkert and Paul Volkert; brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald Hahn, Erma Volkert, Marvel (Dr. Elmer) Pick, Wilbert Vohs, Paul (Red) Samuelson, James Young and Gene Clymens.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Barry (Julie) Hahn of Alta, Iowa; Becky (Brad) Tesch of Leon, Iowa; Cindy (Rob) Germann of Wall Lake, Iowa; Nadine Chapman (Steve Adams), New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Amy (Rick) Bohler of Cape Coral, Florida; Grandchildren: Katie (Doug) Alexander, Jennifer (Ryan) Larson, Chris (Christy) Tesch, Anthony (Tabitha) Bohler, Tonya (Tom) Bolan, Jim (Ashley) Bohler, Callie Chapman, Brett Hahn, Mallary Chapman, Riley Germann, and Molly (Jesse) Beckman; Great-grandchildren: Carter Tesch, Delaney and Hadley Alexander, Lukas Bohler, Landon and Ryder Watson, Ily Chapman Glass, Grace Larson, Mathew Bohler, Max Larson, Calya Tesch, Rayna Wadle, Chloe Beckman, Peyton Bohler, Cash Bearden, Aubrey Bohler, Carson Bohler, Navy Beckman; her siblings Wanda Samuelson, Frieda Vohs, and Carolyn Young; brother and sisters-in-laws: Bob (Mary) Hahn, Barb Volkert, and Delores Clymens, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Janet will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her.
