JANET J. HALSTEAD, 65, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday morning April 4, 2016 in Unity Point Health, St. Luke's in Sioux City, Iowa due to an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Spencer, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Janet was born on March 9, 1951 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Fred & Joyce (Salmon) Halstead. She lived with her family in Spencer, Iowa as a child and graduated from Spencer High School in 1969. She continued to live in Spencer after graduation until moving to Cherokee where she worked as a Resident Treatment Worker at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute until her retirement. She enjoyed going to coffee and talking to her friends, and spending time with her family, especially her niece Haylee Halstead and her nephews Evan Halstead, Thomas (Laura Seidel) Reinert and Nathan (Christina) Reinert whom she loved as her children.
She was preceded in death by her father Fred Halstead.
She is survived by her mother Joyce Wilson and her step-father Howard Wilson of Milford, Iowa; her sister Sharon (Phillip) Reinert of Cherokee, Iowa; her brother Fred (Kylee) Halstead of Sprit Lake, Iowa; two step-brothers: Darwin (Sandi) Wilson and Duane (Lucinda Wilson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota as well as their children Scott (Leslie) Wilson, Stephen (Marie) Wilson, Krista (A.J.) Rounds and Chelsea (Ben) Hoffman as well as six great nieces and one great nephew.
