Obituary

JERRY D. RADLE , 74, of Spencer, Iowa, formerly of Lancaster, California, and originally from Cherokee, Iowa, passed away October 17, 2018 in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 16 th , at 1 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery at rural Cherokee, Iowa at a later date. There will be military rites at the funeral home following the memorial service by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the Cherokee American Legion. It was Jerry's wish to be cremated. There will be no visitation. Jerry was born on July 6, 1944 at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa to Everett M. & Hattie (Hottendorf) Radle. His childhood years were spent in rural Cherokee County and he attended school in Aurelia, graduating in 1962.

Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 1, 1965 and served until October 24, 1969. He served in Vietnam aboard a river patrol boat in the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta as an engineman second class. While serving he was injured by enemy fire and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Upon discharge from the navy, Jerry lived and worked in Lancaster, California. He was married to Donna Johnson and she passed away on August 12, 2013. In 2015, Jerry moved to Spencer, Iowa.

He is survived by a sister: Dorothy (Merle) Simonsen of Cherokee, Iowa; nieces: Jan (Kim) Galbraith of Spencer, Iowa; Linn (Charles) Price of Paton, Iowa; nephew Brett (Linda) Cipperley of Ogallala, Nebraska several grand nephews and grand nieces; a step-granddaughter: Samantha Johnson of Lancaster, California.
