Obituary

JIM F. SMITH, 80, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, August 12, 2017 in the Accura Healthcare in Cherokee.

Jim was born on July 17, 1937 at Cherokee, Iowa to Franklin Fay & Helen Mae (Cain) Smith. He attended Cherokee Schools. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from Dec. of 1956 until Dec. 1962. He was married to Bobbie Nuttycombe in June of 1960. She passed away in 1963. He later met Pam Dayton and they spent 41 years together. Over the years he drove truck for several companies including Deer Valley Land Improvement, and was truck driver for the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Quimby American Legion, and the AmVets Post #066. He was an avid reader and loved to cut fire wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Joy Kristensen, and a son-in-law Thomas Cates.

He is survived by his longtime companion of 41 years Pam Dayton, four children: Teresa Cates of Cherokee, Iowa; Rob (Marsha) Parcel of Alta, Iowa; Staci (Chad) Brady of Buffalo, Minnesota; Nikki Dayton of Burnsville, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
