Obituary

JOAN G. JOHNSON , 85, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor David Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday, August 28 th , from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Please practice social distancing and masks are suggested. Joan was born on October 12, 1934 at Marcus, Iowa to Ralph & Alma (Digel) Grauer. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1952. She was married to Russell Johnson on November 15, 1952 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

Joan had worked as a Nurse's Aide at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton, CA. for several years, was a waitress at Bernie's Restaurant in Buena Park, CA for 25 years and then was a school secretary for the Anaheim Union High School District for over 25 years, where she retired from in 1997. She had been a resident of Cherokee, Iowa the past several years and prior to this had lived in Murrieta, CA, Stanton, CA, and Buena Park, CA.

She had been a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Buena Park, CA. but had been attending the First Church of Christ in Cherokee when she was able. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved cooking, spending time with her family and grandchildren, traveling, playing cards, working on crafts and decorations for the different holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Alma Grauer, her husband Russell Johnson, son Steve Johnson and daughter Sherry McNabb.

She is survived by her daughter: Julie Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren: April Johnson(fiancé Arthur Schrader) of Cherokee, Iowa and their son Luke; Crystal Kerns of Quimby, Iowa and her children Madison Llamas, Alexis Millikan, and Skyler Kerns; C.J. McNabb of La Habra, California; Staci McNabb of Lonoke, Arkansas; a brother Dale (Pat) Grauer of Littleton, Colorado; a sister Cindy (Cliff) Welch of Jacksonville, Arkansas; also several brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law on the Johnson side of the family.
