JOANN I. MORE TOWNSEND, 83, of rural Aurelia, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017 in the Sanford Health Senior Care Facility in Sheldon, Iowa.
Visitation and a time of sharing memories with the family will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home at Cherokee, Iowa. Joann was born October 11, 1933 at Madelia, Minnesota to Joseph & Julia (Larsen) Kreuer of rural Good Thunder, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1951. She moved to Storm Lake, Iowa in 1963 and to rural Aurelia, Iowa in 1965, where she lived until becoming a resident of the Sanford Health Senior Care Facility in January of 2017.
Joann always loved Arabian horses and spent most of her life raising, training, showing and riding them. She enjoyed taking them to the Spencer Fair every year and also created and sewed costumes for many horse shows. She developed many lifelong friendships with people who shared her passion for horses. In her later years she also bred and raised several breeds of dogs, especially Yorkies.
Joann married Lowell Townsend on February 1, 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Lowell of Aurelia, Iowa; daughter Julie (Albert) Buren of Sheldon, Iowa; grandson Jamie (Jill) Tuttle of Bothell, Washington and twin great-grandsons Titan and Talus Tuttle; a niece Sherry (Loren) Schoewe of Alpha, Minnesota.
