JOHN M. LANGSCHWAGER, 62, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, morning, February 5, 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Tom Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date. John was born on July 26, 1952 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Donald & Dorothy (Hansen) Langschwager. He graduated from Eastwood Community Schools in 1971. He was married to Marlys Meyer on July 1, 1983 in Cherokee, Iowa. He had worked for Caswell's, Obeco, and was currently working for the City of Cherokee. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1989 and prior to this had lived in Washta for 7 years and was originally from the Correctionville area. He was a member of the Cherokee Rodeo Board and active in 4H with the Cavaliers. He loved horses, old western books and movies, teaching kids how to ride and take care of their horses, and especially the time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Dorothy, his in laws Lloyd and Helen Meyer, a brother Donald "Junior" Langschwager II, two brothers-in-law Tom Clark and Deon Meyer.
He is survived by his wife Marlys of Cherokee, his three children: Jason Langschwager of Cherokee, Iowa; Jennifer (Michael) Beazley of Lawton, Iowa; Mitchell (Kristi) Langschwager of Aurelia, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Samantha and Zaylor Langschwager, Madison and Jenna Beazley, Kadence, Laeton, Addilyn, Kollyns and Ryden Langschwager; his siblings: Betsy Clark of Washta, Iowa; Diane Langschwager, Delores Jaacks, Deb Langschwager of Correctionville, Iowa; Brian Langschwager of Sioux City, Iowa; Susan (Tim) Meyer of Norfolk, Nebraska; Pat (Candy) Langschwager and Heather Langschwager of Correctionville, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Gayla (Ronald) Bush of Quimby, Iowa; Vicki (George) Zulanas of Bradenton, Florida; Donna Meyer of Aurelia, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
