Obituary

JOHN L PERRETT, 82, of Quimby, Iowa passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Quimby United Methodist Church. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery at Quimby, Iowa. There will be military rites by Lyle W. Barnes Post #398 of the American Legion and L. A. Wescott Post 2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

John was born October 15, 1932 in Cherokee, Iowa to John "Budd" Perrett and Lola (Jenness) Perrett. He grew up in Cherokee County. He attended country school and graduated from Quimby Consolidated Schools in 1950. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 until 1954, being stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

He was married to Shirley M. Warburton on December 12, 1954 at the Washta Methodist Church. The couple lived in Smithland, Iowa from 1955 until moving to Quimby in 1961. John worked for Simonsen Rendering for a short time and then operated the Standard Station in Quimby from 1961 until 1963. He then worked for Christensen Bros. for 40 years.

He was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church, had served on the Quimby City Council for 20 years, Quimby Community Center Board, Quimby Volunteer Fire Dept. for 46 years serving as Treasurer for 30 years; member of Quimby Town and Country, a life member of Lyle W. Barnes Post #398 of the American Legion, belonging for 58 years and had held various offices at the district and state level. He was also a life member of L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. John enjoyed reading, collecting Fire Trucks and playing games on the computer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marianne in 1930, two brothers-in-law Don Hanson and Don Specht.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; three children: Deb (Lyle) Christofferson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; John (Jayne) Perrett of Holstein, Iowa; Brian Perrett and special friend Deb Keller of Surprise, Arizona; 5 grandchildren: Dustin Christofferson of Aberdeen, SD; Andrea (Rick) Shea of Clear Lake, SD, Donna Perrett of Clarion, IA, Michael Perrett of Waterloo, IA, Hailey Wiest of Aberdeen SD; 2 great grandchildren:Owen and Addison Shea; a sister Faith Hanson Specht of Marcus, Iowa.
