JOLAINE M. TJARKS, 66, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday morning, August 6, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 11th, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com
Jolaine was born October 22, 1948 at Eldora, Iowa to John and Mary Ann (Callahan) Rieks. She grew up on a farm near Buckeye, Iowa as well as living in Alden and Iowa Falls. She attended school in those towns and graduated in 1967 from Iowa Falls High school. She attended La James school of cosmetology at Mason City and became a cosmetologist following graduation. She was married to Greg Tjarks on May 31, 1968 at Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple had been married for 47 years living in Storm Lake, Iowa for 2 years and in Cherokee for 45 years. Jolaine was a special education classroom associate, and had also worked as a Walmart sales associate as well as a devoted wife and mother. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
Jolaine's hobbies included crafting, refinishing furniture, landscaping around her home, as well as reading, home decorating and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Ann (Callahan) Rieks
She is survived by her husband, Greg, a son Brian Tjarks of Cherokee; grandson Tanner Tjarks of Cherokee, a brother Greg Pena of Cherokee, Iowa; sister Lee Ann (Travis) Burnett of Sioux City, Iowa; sister Susie (Richard) Nossett of Baldwin Park, California; as well as several nephews and nieces.
