JOYCE ANN PETERS, 82, of Spirit Lake, Iowa and formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at her home in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10 th , at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Beryl Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with the family present from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Joyce was born on November 13, 1936 at Cherokee, Iowa to Herman and Ruth (Fowler) Ehlers. She graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1955. She had attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri and Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. In 1990 she finished her schooling and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Joyce was married to Gaylord Peters on December 23, 1958 at Cherokee, Iowa. She had taught Kindergarten in Marcus, Iowa for three years. After moving to the Lakes Area she was the Chief Purser of the Queen II at Arnolds Park, Iowa for 13 years. She had been a resident of Cherokee from 1936 until 1970 and then in Spirit Lake and the Lakes Area for many years.
Joyce enjoyed music and had been an organist and pianist at church for 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Ruth Ehlers.
She is survived by her husband Gaylord of Spirit Lake, Iowa; two daughters: Lori Gibbs of Milford, Iowa; Kristine Peters of Spirit Lake, Iowa; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
