KAREN L. ASKVIG, 40, of Quimby, Iowa, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 18, 2014 in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, at 10:30 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Barb Dinelli will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Karen was born on September 8, 1973 at Cherokee, Iowa to Bruce & Patty (Nelson) Spence. She grew up in Cherokee attending Washington High School and later obtaining her GED in 2002. She was married to Roger Askvig Jr. on June 18, 1992 at Cherokee, Iowa. They lived in Cherokee until 1996 when they moved to Monticello, Kentucky, where they lived until moving to Quimby, Iowa in 2003. She had worked at the Shell Convenience Store in Quimby, the Quimby Post Office and was currently working at VT Industries in Holstein, Iowa. Karen enjoyed camping, fishing, shopping, eating ice cream, spending time with her children and was looking forward to being a grandma. She liked to watch the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs play on TV.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Albin and Eva Nelson, paternal grandparents Morris and Judy Spence.
She is survived by her husband Roger, her two children: Krystal Simonsen and her husband Carl of Boone, Iowa; Roger Askvig III at home in Quimby, Iowa; one grandson to be Blake Matthew Simonsen; her mother Patty Nelson of Quimby, Iowa; her father Bruce Spence and his wife Cleo of Sioux City, Iowa; one sister Deborah Massey and special friend Rodney Schmidt of Cherokee, Iowa.
