Keith M. Ohlson went to be with His Lord on Sunday January 10, 2010. It is with sadness for our loss and yet rejoicing. He died peacefully at their winter home in Pharr, Texas at the age of eighty-five.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 15th at 10:30 a.m. at Meriden Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden at a later date. Keith was born to Clarence & Merle (McCord) Ohlson on Oct. 26, 1924 in Cherokee, Iowa. He attended rural grade school and high school in Cherokee through the 12th grade
He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 on a Mine Sweeper in the battle of the Bering Sea. On Feb. 11, 1950 he married Kathryn Pearson and settled on their farm near Meriden Iowa. His love for farming provided over 50 years of enjoyment.

Besides farming conservation was another important opportunity in which he earned several awards. He was an active member of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden for over fifty years. He was also active in the Cherokee County Farm Bureau. Keith also served on the Meriden-Cleghorn school board. He served several years as board member of the Cleghorn Farmers Co-op and as a Liberty Township Trustee for many years.

Keith was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He lived his life with dignity and kindness, ready to help others in need. Friends. Family. Neighbors, and many friends will greatly miss his caring, humor, love and warm heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth Ohlson and a sister JoAnn (Richard) Miller.

Keith is survived by his wife Kathryn, three sons: Timothy (Holly) Ohlson of Meriden Iowa; Craig (Sandra) Ohlson of Rainbow, California; Drew of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren: Matthew (Tina) Ohlson of Meriden, Melanie Ohlson of Huntington Beach, Ca., Micaela Ohlson of Carbondale Co., Aaron Ohlson of Minneapolis, Madison Ohlson of Rainbow Ca., Lauren Ohlson of Rainbow Ca. one great-grandchild Raeonna of Meriden, Iowa; two sisters: Joyce (Lowell) McIntosh of Paullina Iowa; Ardythe (Michael) Urban of Cherokee, Iowa; one sister-in law Betty Ohlson of Cherokee, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
