KENNETH L. EHLERS, 82, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, formerly of Cleghorn , Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Our House Memory Care.
Memorial services will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa. There will be military rites conducted at the graveside. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Kenneth LuVerne Ehlers was born July 8, 1928 in Cleghorn, Iowa to Walter & Mamie Ehlers. Upon confession of his faith in Christ, Ken was baptized at the Cleghorn Church of Christ on April 17, 1933. He graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1946. After graduation, he attended Minnesota Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota and went on to graduate from Minneapolis School of Business in 1948. As a veteran of the Korean War, Ken served our country with a two year duty in the Army Medical Service during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Corporal. Ken's work history began in 1948 as a bookkeeper for Cherokee County Rural Electric Cooperative. He advanced to be the office manager for Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative in Wilton Junction, Iowa from 1953-1955, Cloverland Electric Cooperative in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan from 1955-1960, and the Eastern Illinois Power Cooperative in Paxton, Illinois. He was then promoted to Coordinator of Electric Data Processing at the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives in Springfield, Illinois from 1960-1974. For the last fifteen years of his career, Ken was the director of communication systems for St. John's Hospital in Springfield, retiring December 21, 1990. He moved to Wisconsin in 2006 to be near his relatives. Ken was an ardent scuba diver, underwater photographer, diving instructor, golfer, flutist, accomplished organist, world traveler, and super fun-loving uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Arthur Ehlers, Norene Ehlers, Lorena Carlson, Marjorie Halstrom, Geneva Siljenberg, and his sweetheart of 20 years, Virginia Wolfenfenig.
He is survived by his nieces & nephews: Barb Feenstra, Helen Ames, Bonnie Todd, Mary Sawin, Linda Johnson, Marlene Palser, Dean Halstrom, Craig Carlson along their families and by his friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Clutter for his heartfelt Pastoral attention and the devoted staff at Our House Memory Care in Chippewa Falls. Ken was wonderfully cared for the last three years of his life, treated with gentle loving kindness, and considered "Uncle Kenny" by many of the Our House employees.
