KENNETH H. IRWIN, 88, of rural Washta, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held Friday, June 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the Meadow Star United Methodist church, rural Washta, Iowa. Pastor Len Garrison will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at Grand Meadow Cemetery. There will be military rites at the graveside. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. a the Church on Friday. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com
Kenneth was born December 10, 1925 on the family farm near Pierson, Iowa to William Irwin Jr. and Lucinda (Hall) Irwin. He attended Grand Meadow School and graduated in 1943. He attended York College in Nebraska for two years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was a Seaman First Class serving on a supply ship. He was married to Maxine Godfrey on July 5, 1945 at the Meadow Star Church. Kenny enjoyed farming in Grand Meadow Township for close to 50 years. Following his retirement from farming, he enjoyed spending winters in Texas for over 20 years. He was a member of the Meadow Star United Methodist Church and a member of the Meadow Star Calf Club. He had served on the school boards of Grand Meadow and Marcus for many years. He enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Sue Schmillen, a great granddaughter Gemma Ladenthin, a son-in-law Steve Schmillen and his brother Cecil Irwin,
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, and four children; Ina Schmillen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Ila (Jim) Overholt of Fullerton, California; Alayda (Phil) Ladenthin of Marcus, Iowa; Dr. Tom (Jan) Irwin of Cherokee, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, a sister Beverly (Dean) Petersen of Cleghorn, Iowa; a sister-in-law Bonnie Irwin of Marcus, Iowa.
