KENNETH E. JONES, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 17th at 2 p.m. from the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Clint Hogrefe will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Private family burial with military rites by L.A. Kenneth was born on April 26, 1936 at LeSueur, Minnesota to Gerald & Lucy (Evers) Jones. He attended school in Preston, Minn. and then graduated from Worthington High School in 1956. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army at the Little Pentagon in Japan. He was married to Nancy Ling on August 17, 1959 at Bigelow, Minnesota. He worked as a janitor at Wilson Jr. High School in Cherokee for a few years and then in 1965 the family moved to Sacramento, California. He worked for Sears as an installation man and also helped build a church and school related buildings in North Hollywood, CA. He returned to Cherokee in 1972 and went to work for Lundell Manufacturing and the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, retiring in April of 2000. He was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church and the American Legion. Kenneth enjoyed woodcrafts with different varieties and colors of woods. He was a handyman and a jack of all trades helping his children and grandchildren with many projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Janet.
He is survived by his wife Nancy and six daughters and their spouses: Debra (Jon) Zupke of Larrabee, Iowa; Donna (John) Wright of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Denise (Ken) McMillen of Early, Iowa; Dawn (David) Hancock of Humboldt, Iowa; Dee (David) Enderlin of Cherokee, Iowa; Delores (Preston) Tanaka of Cassville, Wisconsin; 42 grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great grandchildren; four brothers: Maynard (Marlys) Jones of Rochester, Minnesota; Roger (Arlene) Jones of Indpendence, Kentucky; Steve Jones of Harmony, Minnesota; Jason Jones of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
