KENNETH J. SUNDBERG, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, December 25, 2016 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jon Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Kenneth was born on December 21, 1927 at Newell, Iowa to John & Lucille (Whigg) Sundberg. He attended Alta Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy for a short time during WW II. He was married to Marjorie L. Rebhuhn on March 25, 1951 at Ayrshire, Iowa. He had worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for a short time and then went to work for Rhoadside Greenhouse where he was employed for 36 ½ years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. He loved his cars and collecting roadrunner memorabilia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie on January 28, 2015, two sons Jeff and James, daughter Jeanne Stellish, son-in-law Kenneth Stellish; mother-in-law and father-in-law Herman & Katie Rebhuhn; brothers Eldon, Robert, Ronald, and Gary Sundberg, sisters Diane Schramm, Darlene (Floyd) Peterson, Elaine (William) Walsh; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Clarence Rebhuhn, Marie (Robert) Jannsen, Doreen (Royal) Pitchers, Gail Sundberg, Barbara Sundberg and three nephews.
He is survived by one daughter: Janet L. Sundberg of Cherokee, Iowa; two grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Sadie (Dan) Gehlsen and their daughter Madeline of Alta, Iowa; Tony Stellish of Alta, Iowa; one sister: Sandra (Randy) Hogrefe of Storm Lake, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Sundberg of Peoria, Arizona; Charlotte Sundberg of Alta, Iowa; Jeanette (Donald) Mummert of Aurelia, Iowa; Roger Schramm of Storm Lake, Iowa
