LAWRENCE (LARRY) JOSEPH PITTS

Larry Joseph Pitts, age 82 of rural Cherokee, IA, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Burial will be at Maryhill Visitation Cemetery, rural Cherokee, IA. Visitation with family present will take place 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service to follow at the Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Cherokee. Larry Joseph Pitts, the son of Joseph and Alice (Tracey) Pitts, was born September 9, 1943, at home in rural Cherokee County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on the family farm. He attended middle school at Maryhill Visitation Catholic School and later graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1962..

Larry's passion was farming. He raised hogs and cattle for many years and farmed the same home farm since 1968. Prior to that he helped several area farmers as a farm hand.

Larry was also known as the "Fonz" and also the slowest driver on the road. In his free time, Larry enjoyed all the time spent with his family and friends, including the family farm 150 year celebration this past summer, and was fortunate to harvest his last crop this past fall.

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, Larry passed away at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice Pitts; and one brother-in-law, Larry Galvin.

He will lovingly be remembered by his siblings, Patrick (Linda) Tracey of Remsen, IA, Carolyn (Robert) Henke of Cleghorn, IA, Don (Carol) Pitts of rural Cherokee, IA, Jerry (Joanne) Pitts of Fontenelle, IA, Sharon Galvin of Sutherland, IA, Joan (Don) Gaskill of Meriden, IA, Tim Pitts of Cleghorn, IA, Tom Pitts of Cleghorn, IA, and Barb (Danny) Steward of Cleghorn, IA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
