Obituary

LaVerne L.  Magnussen , 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2018 in the Cherokee Specialty Care.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 28 th , at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home at Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. It was LaVerne's wish to be cremated. LaVerne was born on February 6, 1929 at Cherokee, Iowa to Oliver & Gittie (Johnson) Robeson. She attended Washta and Quimby Schools. She was married to Carl Benson in 1949. She was later married to Milroy Magnussen in 1959 and he passed away later that same year in an automobile accident.

LaVerne had worked for Cherokee Produce for 17 years, Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for 33 years, cleaned the Cherokee Clinic at night for 21 years, and for 7 years she had her own cleaning business; cleaning homes for several people in the Cherokee area, retiring on February 6, 2009 when she was 80 years old. She had been a resident of Cherokee County all her life.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Family was important to LaVerne; she especially enjoyed the family reunions to catch up on what all her relatives were doing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Carl Benson and Milroy Magnussen, son Mike Magnussen, brothers Harold, Jesse, and Bill Robeson, sisters Bernice Sargent, DeVe Sprow, Hazel Lloyd, Susie DeYoung.

She is survived by her five sons: Richard (Paula) Benson of Cherokee, Iowa; Dale (Mary) Benson of Cherokee, Iowa; Roger (Barb) Magnussen of Red Oak, Iowa; Rick Magnussen of Havre, Montana; Steven (Kathy) Magnussen of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter-in-law: Rose Ann Magnussen of Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; three sisters: Carole Johnson of Osceola, Iowa; Bonnie (Gerald) McDonald of Cherokee, Iowa;  Mable LaBounty of Storm Lake, Iowa;  three sisters-in-law: Wilma Robeson of Cherokee, Iowa; Donna Bach of Storm Lake, Iowa; Emma Jean Pearson of Everly, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Donald (Ila) Magnussen of Paullina, Iowa; Kenneth Bern of Cherokee, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
