LAWRENCE A. HANSON, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026 at Accura Healthcare in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa located at 207 E. Main Street. Father Dan Rupp will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Military rites will be performed by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Larry was born on February 19, 1937 to Alfred and Mary (Reinert) Hanson at Cherokee, Iowa. He attended Cherokee Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1955-1958, serving on the U.S.S. Randolph. He was married to Norma Benson and later married Synthia Koth on August 29, 2000 at Cherokee, Iowa.

He worked for Wilson’s Packing House and was also a farmer, having both crops and livestock.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa.

In his free time, he enjoyed going to the casino, traveling to Arizona for warmer winters, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jamie Hanson, wife Norma Hanson, son Clay Hanson, wife Synthia Hanson, siblings Bonita (LeRoy) Rupp, Jack (Sue) Hanson, Jim Hanson, and Deloris (George) Stevens.

He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Ed) Carter of Winchester, Ohio; eight grandchildren Stacia (Chris) Shear of Purvis, MS, Jennifer (Randy) Williams of Corinth, MS, Jakob (Caitlin) Carter of Corinth, MS, James (Kiana) Carter of Ft. Carson, CO, Raymon (Sydney) Carter of Ft. Hood, TX, Ashley (Greg) Patten of Danbury, IA, Jamie (Dana) Hanson of Danbury, IA, Kate (Steve) German of Ankeny, IA; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Linda Hanson of Manhattan, Kansas; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
