LEONA V. LILLIE, 102, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 21, 2017 at Accura Health Care in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 26th, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Father Daniel Guenther will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Leona was born on September 16, 1914 at Wirth, Indiana to Charles & Mary (Hanseck) Driggs. She graduated from Quimby High School in 1933. She was married to George Lillie on September 16, 1944 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had worked as a waitress and an accounts payable clerk for many years, retiring in February of 1972. Leona had lived in California and Arizona before moving to Cherokee, Iowa in 1996. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Leona enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, traveling, fishing, spending time with her nephews and their families and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George on June 10, 1996, a brother Clyde Driggs in 2001, a nephew Larry Lickiss, and a nephew's wife Helen Driggs.
She is survived by nephews and their families: Charles Driggs of LeMars, Iowa; Douglas (Diana) Driggs of Cherokee, Iowa; Neil (Anna Marie) Lickiss of Cherokee, Iowa; Charlene Lickiss of Aurelia, Iowa; several great nieces and great nephews.
