Obituary

LeRoy J. "Puttball" Lanxon , 88, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away on November 22, 2020 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Private family graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Michael Agnew will officiate. There will be military rites at the graveside by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the Cherokee American Legion. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

The family would like to invite all of Puttball's friends to join them in celebrating his life on Saturday, September 4 th at the Cherokee Golf Course from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. We would love to hear stories and memories that you would like to share.  This will be a casual affair, as we know he would like it to be. Light refreshments will be served and a no host bar will be available, so please come and celebrate with us.

LeRoy John Lanxon was born on April 5, 1932 at Cherokee, Iowa to H.K. "Sherm" & Florence (Lee) Lanxon. As teenager he worked at the Cherokee Country Club and as a result he became an excellent golfer. While in high school he was an integral part of the golf team. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1950 and then attended Business College in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a CPL (T). He had worked as an Auditor for the State of Iowa until his retirement. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was a member of L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the Cherokee American Legion.

Puttball enjoyed golf and finally after 40 years of playing the game he finally scored a hole in one! He loved card games all his life and in his later years played pinochle on a regular basis with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister June Still and a brother Bob Lanxon.

He is survived by his sister: Donna (Richard) Sagness of Pocatello, Idaho; sister-in-law Bonnie Lanxon Kinnison; nephew Bradley Lanxon and nieces Sheryl Still Thaxter, Debbi Sagness Van Vooren, Becky Sagness Hardy, and Beth Sagness Higbee. He is also survived by a longtime and very good friend Dick Jensen of Meriden, Iowa.
