Obituary

LLOYD F. GRONEMEYER, 81, of Milford, Iowa, formerly of Arnolds Park, and former longtime Cherokee resident passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at his home in Milford.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 9th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee Rev. Ethan D. Sayler will officiate. There will be military rites at the funeral home by L. A. Wescott Post #2253, V.F.W. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Lloyd was born August 2, 1927 in Plymouth County, Iowa to John and Florence (Meether) Gronemeyer. He graduated from Akron High School in 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division. He was married to Betty Liston on March 20, 1947 at Elk Point, South Dakota. His home was in Milford and had also lived in Arnolds Park for a number of years and was a long time resident of Cherokee. He was a car salesman for the A& O, Dunn Chevrolet and Brown Chevrolet in Cherokee from 1948 until 1984. He worked as car salesman in the Lakes area until retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he continued driving and picking up cars for businesses in Milford. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed horse-back riding, bowling, snowmobiling, camping, boating and time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lorraine Pigott.

He is survived by his wife Betty, one son Larry Gronemeyer of Milford, Iowa; one daughter Jacque Lambert and her husband Jim of Jackson, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren: Brett Gronemeyer and his wife Angel of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Cary Gronemeyer and his wife Aunna of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kristin Butko and her husband Joe of North Port, Florida; Matt Wenck and his wife Tamara of Johnstown, Colorado; Holly Bogue and her husband Steve of Clarksville, Tenn.; Josh Wenck and his wife Breanna of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 1 step granddaughter, Laurel Everest Lambert, also 14 great grandchildren.
