LOIS LORENE (ABELS) APPLEYARD, 87, of Rockwall, Texas and formerly of Dallas, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Senior Care at Lake Point in Rowlett, Texas.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 17th, at 10 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Lois was born was born December 17, 1925 at Marcus, Iowa to Henry B. and Flossie Mae (Carlson) Abels. She attended schools in Marcus and graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee. She was married to Roy E. Appleyard of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and this marriage was blessed with one daughter Anne Lynn. She attended telegraph classes in Sioux City and moved to Chicago in 1947 and was employed by Western Union Telegraph Co. until 1973. She then worked for a brokerage firm on the Board of Trade and Mercantile Exchange trading floors as a teletype operator until 1979. She moved to Dallas, Texas in January of 1980 and was employed by Trinity Industries Inc., LPG Division in the purchasing department, retiring in January of 1995 with 15 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by one daughter Anne Hampel and her husband Alan of Royse City, Texas; three grandsons: Lawrence Alan Hampel and his wife Laura, Matthew Dale Hampel and Daniel Reece Hampel; one sister Betty Hantsbarger of Cherokee, Iowa; one brother Ronald B. Abels of Chicago, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
