LOIS G. BECKER, 97, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009 in the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27th, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from

Lois was born on April 6, 1912 at her parents home Walter W. & Jessie (Peters) Simmons in Pilot Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended country school, Pilot #6 thru the eighth grade and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1929. She then taught country school for 8 years. Lois was married to Ronald Becker on May 29, 1937 at Aurelia, Iowa. She and her husband farmed near Aurelia for a few years and then farmed her family's farm in Pilot Township for many years. They retired from the farm in 1979 and moved to Cherokee. Lois was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, church circles and belonged to the Friendly Neighbor Club. She enjoyed crewel embroidery, baking apple pie and cinnamon rolls and was well known for her homemade noodles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald on April 8, 2002, brothers Beryl and Dale Simmons.
She is survived by her four children: Karen Magnussen and her husband Dale of Larrabee, Iowa; Jim Becker and his wife Bette of Naples, Florida; Russ Becker and his wife Angie of Cherokee, Iowa; Terry Becker and his wife Denise of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one sister Phyllis Torrey and her husband Bob of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
