LOIS MAE NELSON, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, August 29, 2026 at Cherokee Specialty Care.

Private family graveside services will be held. Public visitation will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home located at 207 E. Main Street in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor David Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Lois was born on January 4, 1932 to James and Georgia (Ausberger) Acheson at Fonda, Iowa. She attended Fonda Community School and graduated high school in 1950. She was united in marriage to her husband, Paul Nelson on June 4, 1959 at Waterloo, Iowa, together they had three sons, Jeff, Barry, and Clifford.

Lois worked for the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, retiring in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Paul Nelson.

She is survived by her three sons, Jeff and Sharon Arndt-Nelson of Cherokee, Iowa, Barry and Nancy Nelson of Cherokee, Iowa, and Clifford and Michelle Nelson of Cherokee; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, Josh and Amber Nelson, Zachary Nelson, Brian and Lizzy Nelson and their son Borin, Benjamin Nelson, Annalie Nelson, Kayla and Aaron Bush and their children Andrew, Jayden and Brody, Christopher and Cassie Nelson and their children Easton, Willow, and Sutton, and Colby Nelson and his children Layla and Dayton.
