LOIS I. VETTER , 92, of Larrabee, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, September 1, 2020 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Private family memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Robin Thomas will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in the Silver Lake Cemetery at Lake Park, Iowa. Lois was born on August 29, 1928 to C. Gilbert and Charlotte (Lenz) Zahren at rural Lake Park, Iowa. She attended Lake Park schools graduating in 1946 and then attended the Spencer School of Business. She was married to Don W. Vetter on December 26, 1948 at Lake Park, Iowa.
Lois taught country school for a few years and later worked for the United States Post Office for several years. She would occasionally fill in as a mail carrier in Cherokee and one time during her route she slipped and broke her ankle, but she continued on and finished her route before going to the doctor. She was a member of the Larrabee United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women's group.
Lois loved doing puzzles, baking, sewing, playing cribbage, preparing mission kits for Ingathering at her church and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don Vetter on September 25, 2018, infant twin sons Wesley and Leslie on April 7, 1953, sisters in law and brothers in law Bonnie Vetter of Spencer, Iowa, Herma and Glenn Hensley of Baldwin, Wisconsin, Cecil and Ellen Zahren of Lake Park, Iowa.
She is survived by her four children and six grandchildren, Carolyn (Bernard) Kastein of Springfield, South Dakota and their children Brandon, Lyndsey, Dr. Carrie (Dr. Adrian) Ptacek, Lisa Vetter of Storm Lake and her daughter Kayla Vetter, Wesley (Ruth) Vetter of Cherokee, Iowa, and Tom (LeAnn) Vetter of Cedar Falls, Iowa and their children Alec and Ailish Vetter. She is also survived by a brother Gerald (Jana) Zahren of Lake Park, Iowa; a brother-in-law Gene Vetter of Spencer, Iowa.
