Obituary
LONNIE EDWIN "SWEDE" HANSON, 72, of Washta, Iowa passed away Monday morning, February 27, 2012 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa after a two year battle with congestive heart failure.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Washta United Methodist Church. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate. Burial will be in the Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. Visitation will be on Friday, March 2nd from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening. Lonnie was born February 12, 1940 in Cushing, Iowa to Johann Albin and Elsa Gunborg (Nilsson) Hanson. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1958. He was married to Patricia Lee Davis on January 18, 1969 at Whiting, Iowa. To this union four daughters were born. He worked for Simonsen Mill & Manufacturing in Quimby for 48 years, retiring in 2009. He had lived in the Washta and Quimby area all his life. Lonnie was a devoted husband and father whose life revolved around his family. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar, gardening, polka music, collecting toys, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, as well as any event involving his daughters and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and her husband Colleen & E. Henry Johnson and a great niece Erin Rose Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia and four daughters: Cheryl Ann (David) Fluke of Quimby, Iowa; Cara Lynn (Andrew) Ross of Washta, Iowa; Michelle Marie (Michael) Dalton of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Amy Elizabeth (Eric) Stegeman of West Des Moines, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Jessica Monet and Dylan Alexander Fluke; Jade Alanna Hanson, Trevor Andrew Ross and Jace Matthew Dalton; two sisters-in-law Marcia (Gerald) Warrender of Washta, Iowa; Cheryl (Fritz) Schemmel of Sherman, Texas; a brother-in-law John (Nancy) Davis of Marion, South Dakota; also several nieces and nephews.
