Loren was born October 16, 1926 in Wynot, Nebraska, the son of Hans Louis and Estella (Koch) Sorensen. Loren farmed with horses in his younger years, something he always enjoyed. He was drafted into the infantry (H-TRP 7th Regt. 1st Calvary Division) in his late teens, earning the rank of SGT. Major during WWII at the age of 19. Following his time in the service he worked in construction and woodworking in the Sioux City area, and met the love of his life, Judith M. Knittel, during those years. He proposed to her the first night they met, and she said yes. They married in 1952. That marriage lasted for 68 wonderful years. In 1959 a job opportunity of running the national guard moved Loren and Judy to Cherokee, where they raised their five children. Loren later became the assistant traffic manager at Wilson Foods, from where he retired in 1985.
Things that brought him joy in life were spending time with family, storytelling to anyone who would listen, traveling the country with his wife and family in his motorhomes, buying new cars, and woodworking. He also rarely missed a race at the Alta speedway. Loren showed his faith through the love of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; his children--Lauren Bakker, Marcene (Paul) Means, Martee Heinse, Dawn (Dale) Henke and Richard Sorensen; his grandchildren--Christi Herzog, Jeremy Bakker, Matthew Means, Mitchell Means, Justus Petersen, Brent Henke, Lee Henke, Patty Henke, Shannon Schroeder; and 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings--Jeannine (Richard) Scott and Jim Sorensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings--LaVerle, Lyle, Terry, Delores; son-in-law, Dale Bakker Jr., and granddaughter, Brooke Petersen.
