LORI J. SOKOLOWSKI, 55, of rural Holstein, Iowa passed away Monday morning, March 7, 2011 due to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14th at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. Father Armand Bertrand will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. Lori was born October 9, 1955 in Cherokee, Iowa to Robert & Mary (Dau) Hahn. She loved to be outdoors with her dad while growing up. She was active in state track, band, vocal music and basketball, graduating from Willow Community Schools in 1974. She attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa on a vocal music scholarship for one year and then attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa for a half year. Lori was married to Richard J. Sokolowski on February 21, 1976 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee and she later joined the Catholic faith. She was involved in the farming operation with her husband Dick, raising pigs and crop farming. From 1986 until 2007 she stayed home to raise her family. She had also worked at the Pride Group for one year and also at Marketlink in Storm Lake for one year. She was a member and Eucharistic minister of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Lori enjoyed politics and was very active in the Democratic Party and the Farmer's Union. She traveled to Washington D.C. many times to lobby for the Farmer's Union. She was past president of the Siouxland Chapter of the Farmer's Union and past State Board member of the Farmer's Union.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Herman & Emma Dau, Dan & Ethel Hahn, Aunts & Uncles Clarence Dau, Herbert Goettsch, Marvel & Dr. Elmer Pick, Donald Hahn, two cousins Dr. James Goettsch and Raymond Dau.
She is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Sokolowski of Holstein, Iowa; her parents Robert & Mary Hahn of Cherokee, Iowa; her four children: Leah Schoen and her children Jay, Kiley, and Patrick of Cleghorn, Iowa; Aaron (Shyla) Sokolowski and their son Joseph of Holstein, Iowa; Traci (Paul) Wilkie and their children Austin, Ashlyn, and Addyson of Larrabee, Iowa; Jessica (Damon) Busse and their children Ethan, Lana, and Kallie of Cleghorn, Iowa; a brother Daniel Hahn of Cherokee, Iowa; Aunts & Uncles: Vernon (Deloris) Dau of Cushing, Iowa, Leslie (LuEtta) Dau of Paullina, Iowa, Myrt Goettsch of Holstein, Iowa, Lorne (Janet) Hahn of Aurelia, Iowa, Delores Clymens of Aurelia, Iowa; mother-in-law Eleanor Sokolowski of Marcus, Iowa; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Mary Smalling of Colorado City, Colorado, Sue (Jim) Bettenga of San Diego, California, Tom Sokolowski of Correctionville, Iowa, Bill Sokolowski of Washta, Iowa, Jane Goldsmith of Sulphur Springs, Texas; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
