Obituary

LOWELL  H.  ALLEN, 95, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Accura Healthcare Assisted Living in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa.  Pastor Nelson Jenkins and Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.  Private family burial will be held on Thursday morning at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa prior to the church service.  Military rites will be performed by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 and the Cherokee American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Lowell was born on May 14, 1930 to Ralph J. and Iva Mae (Nafe) Allen in Grand Meadow Township, Iowa.  He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1948.  He was united in marriage on October 21, 1951 to Elaine Marion Anderson at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, earning the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War.

After his military service, Lowell worked as a farmer and raised cattle and hogs.

He was a member of Meriden Evangelical Free Church in Meriden, Iowa, where he served in many positions.

He served on the CML Telephone Board from 1974-1992 and was also President of the board during that time.

Lowell and Elaine wintered in Texas for many years and while there he belonged to the Pharr South Pool League. During his retirement, he enjoyed woodturning, playing pool and shuffleboard, refurbishing his 1954 Farmall Super M Tractor, watching college basketball, the WNBA, and was an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra Allen, siblings Reva Tomlinson, Max (Mary Alice) Allen, Claire (Phyllis) Allen, and Verle Allen.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Elaine Allen of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters; Kathleen Allen (Richard Bell) of Omaha, Nebraska and Linda (Dennis) Paslay of North Aurora, Illinois; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; son-in-law Dennis Janssen of Donnellson, Iowa; sister-in-law Kay Allen of LeMars, Iowa.
