LUCILLE M. SAMUELSON, 98, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held Monday, February 28th, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 2:45 p.m. at the Church on Monday. Lucille was born July 12, 1912 in Silver Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to Clifford and Blanche (Allen) Simmons. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1928. She received her normal training and taught country school in Silver Township from 1932 until 1936. She had also worked at Randall's Café in Cherokee and did housecleaning for several families. She was married to Virgil Samuelson on November 28, 1936 at Fremont, Nebraska. Lucille had lived in Cherokee since 1981, prior to this on a farm in Rock Township and had also lived in Rockford, Illinois. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Entre-Nous Club, the Book Club, PTA and Band Mothers. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, all types of music, reading, traveling, watching TV, calling family and friends and her many years spent in Weslaco, Texas in the wintertime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on February 21, 1988, a daughter Jeannine Janssen, a grandson Robert Samuelson, a daughter-in-law Connie Samuelson, a brother Loren Simmons, and two sisters Harriet Simmons and Evelyn Holmes.
She is survived by three sons: Douglas Samuelson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tom Samuelson and his wife Bonnie of Washta, Iowa; Mike Samuelson and his wife Deb of Cleghorn, Iowa; a son-in-law Harold Janssen and his wife Ruby; a daughter-in-law Denise Samuelson; 6 grandchildren: Steven Samuelson and his wife Kim; Nikolas Samuelson; Wendy Samuelson; Cory Samuelson and his wife Tiffany; Melissa Jesina and her husband Jason; Emily Bentson; 3 great grandchildren: Nicole Samuelson; Jessica Lichman and her husband Eric; Aaron Samuelson; one great great grandson Robbie Lichman, a brother-in-law Paul Samuelson and his wife Wanda of Aurelia, Iowa;
